Nearly 18 months after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed on the set of Rust in October 2021, New Mexico prosecutors have announced that actor Alec Baldwin will face charges surrounding her death.



On Thursday, January 19, officials revealed that they charged 30 Rock alum with two counts of involuntary manslaughter after a gun used as a prop discharged towards Hutchins while rehearsing camera angles. Armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who worked on the since-scrapped film, will face two counts of involuntary manslaughter charges as well.


“After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the Rust film crew,”
Mary Carmack-Altwies,  New Mexico’s First Judicial District Attorney, said of her decision to charge the actor and armorer, per Deadline. “On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.”


Baldwin has maintained that he didn’t know that the gun in question contained live ammo.



It is unclear whether the actor will be allowed to live-tweet from jail.
